Soapbox Theory: Positive Images of Black Culture

African American Culture Items

Soapbox Theory is at it again. Having focused on cards, then apparel and accessories over the last several years, Kayin Talton Davis, the creative force behind Soapbox Theory, is bringing her design and vision to the world of playthings. “Many times I’ve been looking for something bright and vibrant for my daughters to enjoy, and I just haven’t seen enough well-designed items that encourage a healthy self-image among Black children. I plan to help change that.” And it seems, she has already begun.

In the last month, Ms. Talton Davis started adding free downloads of paper figures featuring children of color based on her Kritter 'n' Krew note card line. Also offered are plush versions, sold individually or as a set. Soon to join the family are stylish, handmade cloth dolls, made with simple features to allow children to choose how the doll feels and interacts. The first will be available February 2012. A sumptuously illustrated children's book featuring two adventurous, curious and energetic African American girls is slated for release this summer.

If you're looking for children's decor, Soapbox Theory has that covered too. Currently on the site are prints of several little darlings, and any note card design can be made into a wall size print as well. For something a bit more unique, collages in vivid, saturated colors are also available. Of course, there are many eye-catching designs for adults as well.

Soapbox Theory is known for quality designs featuring striking and positive images of Black culture. Ms. Talton Davis started Soapbox Theory in 2001 as a way to indulge her creative side while obtaining a degree in Mechanical Engineering. All products are printed in a small, family owned shop and finished by hand. Custom designs are always an option, and branding is a specialty.
